the original slow-cooker meal

seriously...could a big honking piece of meat be any easier to cook? i know there are a lot of people out there with some serious turkey intimidation but really...don't fear the bird! i've had a couple of interesting turkey experiences (see last year's Thanksgiving post for one!) but usually it's just an easy-bake oven time! i'm thinking the pilgrims/squanto had time management down pat! pull out the giblets (another name for "innards") throw a little onion and celery inside, grease up the outside and plop it in the oven for hours! and unless you have some deep-seated need to experience food poisoning...don't even stuff the bird. yeah, you can get all fancy...sliding sage leaves underneath the skin, injecting the meat with essence of herb de provence or even dropping the whole shebang in a kettle of highly hot, highly flammable, highly fire department-calling oil...but why? folks may "ohhh" and "ahhh" over it for a total of milliseconds then scarf it down all the same. i LOVE Thanksgiving...and i'm especially looking forward to it this year. since retailers have been "celebrating" Christmas since, oh....August!...i've made a vow not to watch Christmas movies or listen to Christmas music until after turkey day! so friday morning?? it'll be jingle bells all the way!
happy thanksgiving!
