Raise the roof!

This is my sweet little garage. It's not nearly as old as my house, but it's probably close to the half-century mark. For the past several years it has been imitating a sieve...leaking all over the place. So Sweetie decided to replace the roof...not just the shingles...but the WHOLE thing...right down to the cinder block! Thank goodness for sons-in-law! They spent three days cutting down my beloved old apple tree (more on that in another blog entry!), ripping off shingles and pulling off boards and rafters. Two dumpsters later...this is what we had! I know what you're saying... "There are actually people faces in this photo"...yes, but they're not MY people faces...they are total strangers we hired to put up the new roof. They got it done in an amazing 6 hours!!
Not quite finished yet...the siding got put on this morning and then we still have to shingle and paint...and hook up the garage doors so they open...and rewire it for power (my garage freezer is running on a heavy-duty extension cord)...and get used to the new pitch...and no apple tree!
...and the only damage from all this "destruction"?...besides to our checking account?! While demolishing the roof, I kept telling Sweetie "Don't step on a nail". And what did he hear? "don't STEP ON A NAIL!" Needless to say, he and Son-in-Law #1 had a great bonding experience getting tetanus shots!

The garage looks hilarious without a roof! Glad the worst of it is over.
