Swiss Cheese Brains

If anyone wants to earn big $$$ in the future...go into geriatric social work! Unfortunately, my father has "swiss cheese" brains...severe dementia. This causes him to forget almost everything 2 minutes after it happens...except that everyone is nagging him to take a shower! He's sure that it's anywhere from 1950 to 1980 and that he has been working hard all day long weeding and building bedrooms...even though he hasn't left his recliner. And, joy of joys, "swiss cheese" brains can make him more belligerent and more grumpy than his old usual self. We tried to get him into an assisted living center this weekend...but due to miscommunication (on their part not ours) they couldn't take him and he wouldn't go. As a family we are at a loss of where to turn for help...this is where the geriatric social worker would come in handy! They could point us in the direction we need to go but aren't sure of where it is. It seems that as my dad has aged and diminished in his mental and physical capacities, he has become more and more like a child. He sleeps during the day, is up at night and into everything. The only difference is he's not cute and cuddly...and like all new parents, we don't have a clue what to do.
